Wind - Rain - But no Water - go figure

Since there is a storm off the coast of NC the breeze is blowing in- which makes the water go out to the river. Leaving us at low tide and no water in the marina. In fact some boats are on the bottom. We havent hit bottom yet, but I'm sure we're only inches away.
This is the back of the boat, Of course right now it's easy for me to get on and off.. YAY!!!

Some Boats are sitting on the bottom:

Some aren't even in water:

Sid will have to jump into his boat, where he can usually just step off the dock to get into his.

The fishing hole is just about gone - No one was fishing tonight....

Where the water used to come up to the tree line, now its receeded.

But Beer is safe and on ice. Tomorrow we're suspose to get rain, school is delayed for some odd reason..guess cause its gonna be breezy.. who knows why.... and we're suspose to have wind gusts up to 50MPH tonight. Thrilling.... Should be an interesting day at work tomorrow.... Probably electric will be out everywhere.....

But we'll see what happens tomorrow.

Road Trip- Outer Banks North Carolina

The Beach was closed today. The waves were so bad that there was no one at the beach hardly at all today. Well ok... you can see one fool out there surfing... but it was crazy. In Kitty Hawk they were flying No Swimming flags the whole way through the town.
Even though we couldn't get in the water, it was still pretty....

Tom headed to Wilmington today with one of his buddies to get a boat, so while they were gone, me and his wife headed to the outer banks. We both left at 6am.

The Boodles stayed home, and we had the neighbor girls babysit her. When I got home at 4pm, the dog was exhausted from playing all day with the girls. she played hard today.

We went to search for lighthouses, found 3 of them. This was the last one we stopped at. We could of walked to the top.... which is 214 steps.... which we didn't do. I probably would of died half way up... lol who am i kidding.... if I made 20 steps I would of been lucky..... But it was 162 feet tall and pretty all the same.

Carrituck Lighthouse.

Of course we stopped to shop. This horse just looked so cute at a store...

Now this will be the last picture of me at this size, as I am no losing weight. Since I have been checking my blood sugar- I noticed it's all over the chart. I haven't been to the Dr's yet for official word but I think I may have sugar. (which explains why I'm so sweet all of the time)... So No more sugary drinks, no more sodas, breads, excess foods..... So far I have lost about 10 lbs in a week, since eating right and walking daily. I still have a ways to go though. But finding foods that I like to eat, that is good for me is a challenge. But I have been able to keep my sugar under control better. And I feel so much better.

At Manteo we went to Fort Raleigh, and the Lost Colony. This is where they put on the live drama for the Lost Colony. It was really nice there.

The Elizabethan Gardens are there also, Since there was a fee to get in and get bitten by the Misquotes while looking at the gardens, we passed. When they say the "admission price also includes "Deep Wood Off wipes"" you may want to rethink where you spend your money.

This little lighthouse was in Manteo also. We could walk around this whole one the boardwalk was strange it was unlevel on purpose, which make you feel woozy walking across it. Since I am clumsy naturally, I had no problems with it. Suzie on the other hand was getting seasick walking across. I was ready to pull out the Dramamein.

This is a fire hydrant I think in Mantago.

Since the pictures didn't upload in order here is a sign from the Lost Colony. While they may not be able to figure out what happened to the people, as you can tell from the Outdoor Drama place they are feet from the ocean....... I'm thinking a hurricane swept them away.....

While, they may not know what happened to them, but they still put up a headstone for them. Wonder if this is like the trick question - Who is buried in Grant's tomb....

We found this lighthouse on the outer banks. We couldn't get too close to this one, but it was huge and pretty.

I did walk alot today, which was good for me. We had a blast. Next road trip will be Virginia Beach or Williamsburg VA. We can hardly wait.

Yesterday Tom decided to fiberglass the back of the boat, which meant that I was stuck outside for 6 hours or jump through the hatch up front. It was a Kodak moment watching me jump through the hatch. But mostly I stayed outside. Infact I don't think we came inside till about 10pm. Of course he gave me no warning that he was gonna do this and I wasn't prepared to be outside that long, so I had to wing it.

The end to a perfect day.

Pictures of Hannah

I was able to get off the boat but getting back on was a trick..... When you see the pictures you will know why. Seems that short legs and a big gut makes it difficult to "dive" into the boat. But with the wedgie-pull that I got from tom (when he gave me a wedgie to get my ass on the boat) I made it... Head first but I made it. Lucky for me, I had the camera already on the boat. The dog was gently picked up and handed to me to safetly get her on the boat.. me-- i wasnt handled as gentle....
Here are some of the pictures from today...

We had to run to the store today, here is the Pelican Marina in Elizabeth City... This marina made everyone move their boat before the storm.

Now for Lambs Marina Photos:
The back of the store 0f the store isn't flooded but you can't drive around the building today. But the good news is everyone is safe, and boats were safe thanks to the hard work that Larry, Bob and Chris did along with others to prepare everyone for the storm.

The flooding at the marina.

More Pictures from Lambs

Some people didn't see the need to move their vehicles, Which today they may be rethinking that decision...

Then for those who wait for me to pick on Tom and Boodles, you won't be disapointed - Tom struggled to get on the boat himself....... With the water up so high its hard getting on and off. We got a milk crate to use to get on. Which for me, didn't help much.

Boodles - napped... Actually she looks pretty comfy..... She isn't letting some rain and wind stress her out at all...

Made it!

Actually the storm kind of missed us. We do have some flooding, and light breezes but nothing like it could of been. Nicole is getting it worse then we are. Right now it's near raleigh, but its a fast moving storm so she should be ok.

Here is a map that will update automatically (hopefully)

This is part of the harbor cam, I love wunderground. I think that site is better than weather. com for more information.

If the storm went by us we slept through it. I was up till about 1am and it was fine here when I went to bed.

Of course the water is up, there is some flooding at the back of the marina.

The boat is high that I can't get off the boat. Even Tom struggled getting off. So it's a good day to stay home and work on the computer I guess.

10 PM Update - The end of a long day.

10pm radar.... Purple X maks our location.

Well we got the boat ready for tonight. We did the final preprations and we're set.
Tom adding extra lines to ours
Tom was out helping them with all the boats here, they went and checked every boat in here tonight to make sure it was ready for the storm.

Its so humid outside that its almost unbearable. But about 9ish it started to cool down and we have a nice breeze. What the breeze will be like later tonight is hard to tell. But we were all at the store chatting and visiting. Most people came yesterday or today to secure their boats, the marina down the street made everyone move, so they moved them in here or they are tied up near an island. There are a bunch of guys staying on a boat at an island. They got their beer and ice and they're ready for it. For me? I'm not that brave.

While I was standing out there talking, I managed to get bit by stupid Fire Ants... Ok these little critters rank right up there with yellow flies. I thought that they were ms-key-toes biting, till I came in the boat and noticed that they were ants. I hate the bugs around here....

But we're settled in for the night...
Our day started off at 8am when we dropped the dog at at Doggy Daycamp. Tom took her in.
I picked her up, she was pissed that her daddy didn't pick her up, this is how she rode home the whole way. She never looked at me once.....

She thinks she hurted my feelings, but little does she know, I really don't care......

On the way home we hit rain, roads in town started to flood, and the storm didn't even make it here yet.... Glad we don't have to go out tomorrow.

Of Course I got stuck at the bridge with so many boats moving around, the bridge has been busy.

Notice how yucky the sky looked.. Now at 10pm its nice and clear with just a few rain band clouds there.....

Well since its still nice out, I'm going up on deck for awhile. There is still allot of people out moving around.

Hannah's rains

Ok the rain has arrived here about 2pm. We got everything done that needed done, now comes the time to just wait it out.

Tom and Boodles are nervous you can tell.. They are both napping hard at this moment.

The storm is suspose to hit here tomorrow during the daytime, so it shouldnt be too bad. I was told at work yesterday that I was going to be on call. As with any major storm I am subjected to be "on call" to come in at the moment's notice. Now usually I don't have a problem with being on call, but if you are telling me that I can't leave the area give me the time sheet....

"We will pay you if we call you in.... " BS...... ook for those who know me well enough, you know I can rant on about this for hours... :) so assume im pissed and we'll leave it at that.

But then, after a few days of rain/ stuck in a small place with Tom, I may embrace the thought of going into work......

The marina here is full.... Over full if you ask me, but there's boats everywhere. The marina down the street - the one ON the river itself has ordered the boats out of there, so they came here instead. That one is empty almost.

Here is the Harbor cam that updates all the time, - for reference You can see me here everyday about noon where I walk to lunch daily from work. there is a bridge in the background that is a drawbridge, it's our only way out without being on a boat. Comforting thought huh? http://www.ecncweather.com/harborcam.php

Depending on the activity tomorrow during the hurricane, I may hook my webcam up for live pictures throughout the storm. Or I may be napping hard too.... who knows...

I will update frequently during the storm if I can.

Who will win out? Charlotte or Hannah

I marked where we live with the red X

Tom's Gotta choose between Charlotte and Hannah..... Either way its gonna suck.

Charlotte

This is the Charlotte Car show weekend.. I got our spot reserved which cost 155 buckaroos, now it doesn't look like we're going to be able to make it. Of course the Auto Fair won't give refunds. We are trying to sell the spot now, but depending on where Ms. Hannah lands, Charlotte will get rain all weekend, or we will....But the looks of the storm path, If Charlotte is spared, We will get it here, If we are spared, Charlotte will get the rain.

Hannah

The storm has been predicted to come either to Charlotte or Elizabeth City. Gotta love the Accu-Guess Weathermen.

As of today one predicted Path that has her near us, of course this morning they had it heading over Raleigh (where I was going to go this weekend)...... Nicole was having a huge yard sale and needed help.

So it appears our weekend plans are washed-up.

Tonight we're getting things ready just in case... Boats are coming in and it's full here, cause it's the safest place for them..... They are out of space for any more boats here. But if necessary, I'm sure they will find space for more if they need to...

Neal has been through several Hurricanes told me what to expect.. He says I "may get wet" and my hair will get "messy". He did mention something about wind and rain... I think he was kidding... lol

The really sucky part???? And I mean this is REALLY SUCKY...

Me and Tom both took Friday off cause we were leaving town. Now we may be stuck together for 3 long days..... INSIDE -- What if we have No cable- No Internet- ( we will have lights and that with the generator).... We're filling up the boat so we have gas to run it........ but we may have to entertain each other.....

We are each envisioning this differently...

Judy's vision for the weekend:
Then there is Tom's Vision for the weekend:

This should be interesting.

We will keep you posted.
